Manager, Accounting (Maritime)

Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager is responsible to manage the day-to-day
accounting and reporting for APL Maritime and APL Marine Services.
All daily, weekly, and monthly journal entry processing and
associated reporting deliverables are managed by this role. The
manager is responsible for internal and external audit requirements
and deliverables. Review G/L transaction activity, detailed G/L
account analyses and task checklists for accuracy; reconcile
account differences and investigate variances. Manage daily bank
activity. Serve as primary finance lead on the accounting for
vessel insurance tracking and crew P&I cost accounting. Serve
as primary lead on all bank reconciliations for APL Maritime and
APL Marine Services. Work closely with Leadership to support all
accruals, dry dock accounting, inter-company invoicing regarding
dry dock costs and other investment recovery.
Essential Functions and Duties:
Manage day-to-day accounting activity including invoice coding and
approvals, analysis of transactions posted to the GL locally and by
GBS teams, and process improvements.
Journal entry analysis and prep; ongoing review of accounts for
rebill.
Balance Sheet and bank reconciliations prep and action follow
up.
Invoice approval and validation of correct coding in SmartTouch and
SAP; Payroll posting in SAP.
Monitor of insurance payments and recovery for P&I and Hull
Insurance.
Evaluation of costs to be rebilled to vessel owner associated with
dry-dock and other investments
Other analysis and projects as defined.
Education, Experience, & Qualifications:
BS/BA degree in Accounting/Finance required.
Minimum 5 years' experience in accounting operations.
Minimum 2 years supervisory experience preferred - CPA or track a
plus.
Previous SAP experience strongly preferred.
Proven customer service skills are required in order to create,
maintain and enhance customer relationships.
Must be able to communicate and interact effectively with
multi-functional and diverse backgrounds.
Capable of being a "change agent" able to see the big picture and
sort through information to effectively prioritize and produce the
required level of customer satisfaction.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines in fast-paced
ever-changing environment.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material with a level
of professionalism and integrity.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and people to successful
outcomes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.
Detail oriented with proven ability to get things done accurately,
efficiently, and timely, mostly within tight deadlines.
