Summary You will serve as an INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST of NAVENPVNTMEDU 2 NORFOLK. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense. Duties * You will review work process and facility plans to verify sufficient health controls are in place and operational. * You will monitor engineering programs to improve work processes. * You will collect samples during investigations or surveys to determine nature and severity of hazards present. * You will compile investigative reports into written findings or recommendations. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Experience applying quantitative and qualitative methods, measurement, fact finding, and investigative techniques.
* Experience providing objective information for making decisions on the administrative and programmatic aspects of agency assignments.
* Experience developing others to perform and contribute to the organization by providing a learning environment of ongoing feedback and opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods.
* Experience developing and presenting findings, reports or recommendations to analysts, employees, managers inside or outside of the organization, agency heads or other high-ranking officials. * Experience with Department of Defense, Federal OSHA and applicable international health and safety regulations, policies and procedures used to develop and implement mishap and environmental health prevention practices and measures in all workplaces. * Experience managing the effectiveness of health and safety programs and practices designed to prevent injury to personnel and loss of property in the industrial work environment. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: * A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
* A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
