Overview: We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated
Data Scientist to join our talented team. This role requires
advanced data analysis skills, including familiarity in machine
learning, statistical analysis, data visualization, programming
languages, and strong communication abilities, allowing them to
design, develop, and maintain complex data models, dashboards, and
analytics solutions, often mentoring junior team members while
collaborating closely with stakeholders to translate data insights
into actionable business decisions.Work is performed on site in
Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.This position is contingent upon
award news Spring of 2026.Key Responsibilities:
- Work with cross-functional teams with data at all stages of the
analysis lifecycle to derive actionable insight.
- Translate mission needs into an end-to-end analytical approach
to achieve results.
- Perform the pre-analytics areas of data collection and
understanding, data cleansing and integration, and data storage and
retrieval.
- Familiarity with analytics and visualization software and
programming languages, including analytics methods for big
data.
- Determine the appropriate analytics based on the data and the
desired outcomes, using techniques including feature detection,
statistics, data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning,
natural language processing, and business intelligence.
- Interpret the validity of results and communicate the meaning
of those results.
- Follow a scientific approach to generate value from data,
verifying results at each step.
- Familiarity with feature engineering, model building, and
presenting findings effectively to non-technical audiences.
- Lead data science projects from conception to deployment,
including defining project goals, data collection, analysis, and
model evaluation.
- Familiarity with machine learning models for predictive
analytics, including hyperparameter tuning and model
selection.
- Manage and integrate large datasets from various sources,
ensuring data quality and consistency.
- Develop interactive dashboards and reports to visualize key
business metrics and insights.
- Guide and mentor junior data scientists on technical skills and
best practices.
- Translate data insights into actionable business
recommendations and measure the impact of data science

Qualifications:
- Bachelors and three (3) years of professional experience with
data science.
- Familiarity with various machine learning algorithms like
regression, classification, clustering, and deep learning to build
predictive models.
- Strong understanding of statistical concepts like hypothesis
testing, confidence intervals, and statistical distributions to
interpret data accurately.
- Expertise in cleaning, transforming, and preparing complex
datasets for analysis, including feature engineering to optimize
model performance.
- Ability to create compelling data visualizations using tools
like Tableau, Power BI, and Matplotlib to effectively communicate
insights to stakeholders.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python and SQL for
data manipulation, analysis, and model development.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP for
scalable data processing and model deployment is desired.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to present
complex data insights to both technical and non-technical
audiences, effectively collaborating with cross-functional
teams.Required Security Clearance:
- US Citizenship required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD)
Secret security clearance.
- Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is
preferred.Required certification: At least one relevant industry
certification such as:
- CompTIA Cloud Essentials
- Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA)
- Certificate of Cloud Security (CCSK)
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA Security+
- EMC Data Science Associate (EMCDSA)
- Cloudera Certified Data Scientist (CCDH)
